Amphora Connect Celebrates 10 Years of Connecting and Supporting Communities
This year marks a significant milestone for Amphora Connect as we celebrate 10 years of serving and supporting local communities across Essex. What began as a small prototype project has evolved into a trusted and essential service, made possible through continued investment and strong partnerships across both the public and private sectors.
Over the past decade, Amphora Connect, part of Amphora Group and owned by Colchester City Council, has played a key role in modernising local infrastructure and public services. Through the digitalisation of our CCTV network and Helpline services, we have improved operational efficiency, enhanced responsiveness, and strengthened support for residents and partner organisations.
Today, our fibre network forms a critical part of the area’s digital infrastructure, with more than 220 connection points across Colchester city centre. This extensive network underpins a wide range of services and provides the backbone for a CCTV estate of almost 550 cameras operating across both Colchester and Clacton, helping to support public safety and community wellbeing.
The impact of this investment can also be seen in the area’s wider digital transformation. When the project was first launched, Colchester was ranked 57th out of the 65 largest towns and cities in the UK for broadband infrastructure. Ten years on, the city has risen into the top third of those rankings, reflecting the progress made in strengthening connectivity and supporting economic growth.
As Amphora Connect celebrates its 10th anniversary, we remain focused on the future. We are committed to continuing our investment in innovation, expanding our reach, and strengthening the digital connections that help our communities, businesses and public services thrive.
