Amphora Connect Launches Full-Fibre Broadband on Mersea Island
We’re delighted to announce that Amphora Connect’s full-fibre network is now live in West Mersea, bringing fast, reliable and future-proof connectivity to homes and businesses across the island.
This launch marks another major milestone in our mission to deliver high-quality broadband infrastructure throughout North East Essex. Built through local investment and supported by a commitment to genuine customer service, the West Mersea rollout reflects everything Amphora Connect stands for: better connectivity, transparent pricing and a network designed with local communities in mind.
A Significant Local Investment
The West Mersea deployment has been delivered through a joint investment between Amphora Connect and our long-standing network build partner, Birch Technical Services (BTS), a Mersea-based specialist engineering business.
The project involved the installation of a new 18km fibre route stretching from Colchester city centre to Mersea Island, passing through Old Heath, Abberton and Peldon before crossing The Strood to reach West Mersea.
Delivering fibre infrastructure across rural Essex and onto an island presented several engineering challenges. Thanks to the expertise and dedication of the BTS team, these challenges were successfully overcome, enabling us to bring a resilient, future-ready network to the community.
Built for the Future
The new network has been designed using the highly respected Adtran family of network and routing equipment, delivering exceptional performance and reliability. Our standard customer routers are capable of supporting speeds of up to 2.5Gbps, ensuring customers are ready for the growing demands of modern digital life.
Whether it’s streaming, gaming, remote working, video conferencing or running a business, West Mersea residents now have access to connectivity built for the future.
Connected to the Heart of the UK’s Internet
Amphora Connect’s network connects directly to Telehouse in London’s Docklands, one of the UK’s most important internet exchange facilities.
From there, diverse network routes travel through Essex to reach Colchester, where key distribution centres in the city centre and Severalls Business Park support our growing infrastructure.
Today, the Amphora Connect network extends from Northern Gateway Sports Park to Mersea Island, and from Stanway to Wivenhoe, connecting thousands of homes and businesses across the region.
Supporting Homes and Businesses
The launch isn’t just good news for residents. Businesses across West Mersea can now take advantage of a range of connectivity options, including:
- Full-fibre broadband (FTTP)
- Dedicated business connectivity
- Private circuits and leased lines
- Tailored connectivity solutions for growing organisations
We’re also proud to welcome Mersea Homes as our first business customer on the new West Mersea network. A family-run property development and construction company that has been building homes for more than 70 years, Mersea Homes represents the type of local business we’re committed to supporting with world-class connectivity.
A Milestone Worth Celebrating
The arrival of Amphora Connect in West Mersea represents countless hours of planning, engineering and collaboration. We’d like to thank everyone involved in helping bring this project to life, from our deployment and operations teams to our partners at Birch Technical Services.
Most importantly, we’d like to thank the West Mersea community for its support throughout the build.
This is an exciting milestone, but it’s only the beginning. We look forward to welcoming many more residential and business customers onto the network in the months ahead.
